With some €5.5 billion in sales, 76,000 employees, and an order backlog worth more than €40 billion, Alstom, following Bombardier Transportation’s acquisition, is now the world’s second largest train manufacturer.

Monday 16 November 2020 Alstom, with a capital increase of 2 billion euros, finalised the acquisition of Canada’s Bombardier Transportation, a subsidiary of Bombardier based in France.

This operation will make the new entity, the world’s second largest rail transport player, with cumulative sales of more than 15 billion euros. Within the field of global competition, this acquisition consolidates the French industrial sector with two consequences :

 • Reduction of the gap with the Chinese parapublic giant CRRC (28 billion), undisputed number 1 in this sector with a 90% market share in China ;
 • The relative "distancing" of Siemens, number three (8 billion).

With its major investment program in new automated equipment for cutting, bending, welding, distribution, and production units supply, as well as its digital transformation projects, TFCM SAS and satellite companies have sized their offering to adapt to increases in production volumes and rates.
